Thank you ronald for the webbie. It certainly is a type of team blog we can look up to, and work towards it of course.
I think your idea about avatars is a great start in the road towards customising our blog! And this can be achieved without hindering our workflow and momentum in our current project as it can be done during little free time while rendering or playblasting haha.
Also, we should be locking down on the final character design soon and i cant wait to model it..... roarrr....... Jiayou Yong yi and ronald. =)
Hello guys!
Have you guys heard of Animation Tips and Tricks?
http://www.animationtipsandtricks.com/
To me, I'm always enlightened when I'm there.
In any case, that isn't my main point here :P
That website is operating like us, a team blog.
And notice that they have a very cool avatar and that makes it all interesting!
So I propose to do that. What do you guys think? :D :D
Oh ya, Yong Yi can you post that similar-to-meline webby link to the Inspiration links please? Thanks :D
p.s. Those characers were probably drawn by them. hee hee!
Voila...So here's my study about the physicality of liondance animation, i wanted more snappy but this will do fine for now. Will improve it on my next one. I'll try out a behavior study on my next animation test His character and personality.
Here are some names I brainstormed for our little lion:
Feline
Leo
Lio
Felio
Leo sounds good to me, but it's so.. common.
So I thought of Lio? or Felio?
Yong Yi, nice details, I totally agree about the losing the essense of the chinese traditional lion dance part. Need your expertise on that :)
since the proportions are okay, I'll draft out a blueprint thingy with only proportions while you continue explore his design and details till the final one okay?
After which we'll weld these together to get the final design. Cheers!
Hello!
Upholding the spirit of Channel Box, even the logo is an experiment in school with shaders the other day! :)
more of our Lion(yes,we should give it a name) (0)

this one looks like a toy
Btw nice sketches Ronald! your Lion looks much more adorable than mine. But I kind of feel that the look of the chinese lion dance is lost a little, maybe it's the head, i'm not sure.Pls comment! thx!
I kind of like those ideas by Zi Chao, especially the fire crackers and the hiphop part.
Actually, I will not say it's boring. We can still have lotsa fun animating them.
We can try SUPER WACKY stuff in the coming projects.
This project is moving speedy and we're on to locking down on our character in a couple of days to come! We are all okay with the proportions for now and it's time for the facial design :)
Keep ideas coming in! :D :D
This is your co-captain Zi Chao speaking, and currently exploring the boundaries of the little lion dancer. Oh no we havent got him a name yet. ANyway..
Initially i thought of giving him the cliché naughty personality, and thought that maybe he'd like kungfu alot, since lion dance was originated from the art of kung fu. Playing with fire-crackers alot and stumbling alot due to his inexperience in kungfu but loves to spin around and act like he knows alot. Geez, that might just be utterly boring man.
Then i thought, lion dance was always done by choreographing a sequence of customized action commands in rhythm, so maybe he should be a dancer, a ballet? a hip hop or jazz cool lil lion. Hmmm and what if he likes to dance using kungfu moves and stuffs, would it be cool? What will his actions be like, his expressions? I guess i gotta test that one out with animation. Probably gonna use staccato actions (snappy) and very quick movements.
Moments later...a lightning bolt hit me and i thought of a sequence we 3 guys could animate and produce. But its hard to express using words... i'll tell you dudes tomorrow.
But i don't know if i should do these, because i always wanted to think out of the box and create a personality that no one has ever done it before. Bleh...
Still exploring........... Look out for animation tests soon =)
Did more research and realised some interesting things about the head shape of the traditional lion dance puppet.
Never tried the side view so went on to explore with similar proportions. :)
Added some value too
Hello guys! Here's what I have come up with based on the Lion Dance idea.
Played around with the proportions quite a bit before coming up with what I like, what I feel will be fun to animate. The one with the white background is the one I like and I'm going to explore from there.
Big head, big eyes and big bottom, short simplistic limbs and less sphisticated patterns on his body. Going for something really stylized and exaggerated.
I've also begin to search for videos of playful cubs and puppies. Hopefully will have some inspiration from there.
I've been doing lots of researches on our little lion. Here's some of the sketches on how i pictured it to look like. But i'm having problems on getting out the ferocious look the lion has... i'm currently working on the eyes. So stay tuned! :)
After some discussion, we have decided to embark on the idea of the Lion Dance or 舞狮. I feel that the design and colours can be very very beautiful! I can almost imagine it now.
Yong yi suggests to give it a very hyperactive personality, somewhat like a puppy. Check back for updates!
3 of us are used to animating bipeds. This is a very good chance for us to practise animating quadrupeds! :)
I suddenly had an idea of having the traditional Chinese Lion dance lion as our character! Thought i'll be cool as it's never been done before. I'll go do some sketches right away!~
Hi everyone!
Yong Yi or yongs here.
Our first project would be to create a whacky 3d character who can do practically anything. We'll accomplish mainly the design, model, test animations and also test renders for the character.
The theme's not set yet but it will surely be a ridiculous looking man or thing :)
so Stay tuned!
Hello!
My name is Ronald.
My two buddies, Yongyi and Zichao, and I have worked together on numerous occasions on creative projects, of which one of them has won awards.
3 of us suddenly (I mean it) have come up with an idea to create experimental CG projects in our free time.
We are in discussion of our first experimental project and progress will be on the way!
The objective of this blog is to log our progress as we go along. We will get wacky and creative as we progress and hopefully be able to inspire other learning artists :D
